The Cougars bench will have a few familiar faces for the upcoming season.

We are happy to announce the Assistant Coach Sandy Bell will be returning, as will Senior Trainer, Jerry Strader.

Gary Waldrum will take on the role of General Manager.

Ron McLellan will take a break from the role of assistant coach, and act as our scouting associate, as he and his wife welcome their new child into the world this summer.

The Cougars are thrilled to welcome 3 new members of the coaching staff this year!

Craig Armitage - Head Coach

Craig has been coaching hockey for the past 11 years with Newmarket and Aurora minor hockey systems. Craig has been coaching MIdget AA for the past 5 years, accumulating 1 OMHA championship and 2 OMHA final appearances. Craig was awarded Sports Coach of the year for the Town of Newmarket in 2007. Numerous players under Craig's tenure have graduated to successful careers in both Junior C and Junior A.

Mike Vanderbeken - Assistant Coach/Trainer

Mike has been coaching hockey for the past 6 years in the Newmarket Minor Hockey system with Craig Armitage. Mike has been a defensive coach/trainer on several successful Midget AA teams, accumulating 1 OMHA championship and 2 OMHA final appearances. Mike played in the GTHL over his entire hockey career.

Jared Paul - Assistant Coach

Jared is a familiar name to the Cougars family. Jared began playing his junior career in Bradford, spent 2 years in Georgina, and played the remainder of his junior career with the Schomberg Cougars. He has spent the last 3 years coaching in Newmarket, at the bantam and midget levels. He has taken his teams to the OMHA finals in his first year of coaching and has reached the York Simcoe finals in his second two years. Jared is in the process of becoming a police officer.

Ajay Dhamrait - Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coach

Ajay is a familiar name in Schomberg Minor Hockey and to the Schomberg Cougars.  He has been a Pottageville resident for 21 years, and grew up playing hockey in town.  He played for Schomberg Minor Hockey from 1998 - 2001, followed by a season with the Cougars.  He then ventured forward to Laurentian University, where he graduated with an honours Bachelor of Physical and Health Education.  He currently works as an elite trainer, at the Goodlife Fitness Centre in Richmond Hill.

We are looking forward to the upcoming season and anticipate an incredible 40th anniversary season!
